Carolina Flats Skiff Meghan has finished sanding the bottom paint off in preparation for installing new wooden skegs & repainting. She & Jack have also removed the transom hardware & sanded the transom inorder to prep for laminating the new transom veneers. Jack milled wood for new transom veneers & has installed half of it. Today they are working on finishing the laminating new wood over the transom. U-18 The U-18 is looking glossy & new after Shane has applied multiple coats of varnish. Do you know how many coats of varnish it takes to build on a boat? About 6 to 7 coats on each boat. Lookin 'good Shane! CC Riviera The Riviera is in our finishing room getting its final coat of varnish from Shane. Look at that shine. 58 Continental Jack has milled all the wood for the transom planks & side planks that need to be replaced due to rot. He is now working on shaping and fitting the transom planks. Shown below you can see where Jack has dry fitted the side planks that are being reinstalled & not replaced. Celebrity Meghan is continuing to build varnish on the various wooden pieces including the rub rails and toe rails. Hackercraft Jack has reinstalled the engine into its engine compartment & is working towards connecting & organizing the wiring. He has also made custom brackets to secure the engine plumbing & battery boxes - check those out below! Lyman Islander
Shane has been continuing the exploration of this boat by removing the forward deck to investigate & address the rot. Never a fun thing to find but nothing our crew cannot handle!

He has also started prepping the ceiling board panels for varnish. The U18 is lookin good, Thanks Shane! CC Riviera Shane has been working on some touch ups to the Riviera, getting it ready for its engine to go back in! 56 Continental Jack and Shane tested the engine today on the 56! That new trailer is looking good. 58 Continental Jack has applied the starboard side to the 58 and now the bottom planking is completed. What a difference from start to now - see it for yourself below! Celebrity The crew has completed applying the dyel to both sides of the Celebrity. Meghan has been working on sanding & refinishing wooden pieces to the boat. Whirlwind The whirlwind is ready to flip after finishing the bottom paint. Next up is applying the proper spring tensioners so that the motor can be lifted without the steering wires coming undone and adding a Bimini top! Stay tuned, exciting stuff happening. Meanwhile in Maine... We miss Gary here at the shop but he is having a blast and a well deserved vacation before his classes start. Check this out: Gary visited Androscoggin Wooden Boat Works, had a pretty cool office location and even got to go back to his roots in filming. Have fun Gary! U18 Shane has just finished filling and bunging the remaining holes & sanding to prep for stain on the deck & transom. The U18 even had a familiar face visit. That's right the owner of the U18 came in to say hi & check on progress. Lookin good! CC Riviera Shane has installed the rutter & bed log for the Riviera. He also made a mounting plate for a new in-line fuel filter. Exciting stuff! 58 Continental Jack and Shane permanently installed the port side bottom with 5200 marina adhesive and covered it to allow curing. Next is the starboard side Whirlwind Shane put a primer coat on the bottom and 2 coats of paint. The whirlwind is ready to flip and get its deck redone! Hackercraft Jack has almost completed the engine tune up and maintenance. He is now installing the new spark plugs and impeller for the water pump. We are currently waiting on the alternator to return from getting work done and then next he will reinstall the engine. Lyman Islander This new boat has gotten its windshield removed and inspection started on the frames for cracks, breaks, or rot. Next Shane & Jack will be doing a leak test. CC Celebrity The new plywood subdeck has been fitted and installed on the Celebrity. The crew has begun installing dynel over the top of the plywood sub deck, Look at them go! Whirlwind Shane has put the keel on the Whirlwind and has made sure the stingers are all bolted down. Now Shane is prepping to paint. How exciting. Carolina FLATS Skiff After removing the plywood deck, fuel tank, engine & loose wiring the crew rolled the boat to begin work on the bottom. Meghan is currently sanding the paint off the bottom. 1992 Hackercraft The crew has removed all the damaged boards and replaced them in the engine compartment. Jack has also cleaned, sanded, and painted the engine compartment with bilge paint. He has also installed a new fuel sender in the fuel tank, installed a new depth sounder gauge and transducer. But wait that's not it, he has also installed a new fire extinguisher gauge system, new fuel filter & fuel shut off valve. Lastly he has pressure tested the exhaust pipe for leaks. Fair seas, - The Lowell Boats Crew Gary, Destini, Jack, Shane & Meghan 56 Continental We missed out 56 Continental but it is back, with a new custom trailer too! We are now doing the final touch ups on this boat then it will have its final sea trial and be on its way! Celebrity The deck has been removed from the Celebrity and the crew has repaired the deck structure. Now they are preparing to install a new plywood sub-deck. Looking good! 1934 Electricraft This elecricraft is almost ready to head out of here! The bottom has been repaired and the transom knees have been sanded and reinforced. Next up is more fairing & reinforcement. Carolina Flats Skiff A Lot of removals going on in the shop - the deck of the Flats boat has been removed. Next up is replacing the wiring and hoses, you will never guess why they need replacing... They were eaten by SQUIRRELS! or so we think. Hackercraft The engine of the hackercraft is being serviced and cleaned up. There are minor repairs to do and paint the engine comp. Lookin good crew! Link below: U-18 Everyone in the shop has been working on the U-18 and watching its transformation! Shane has sanded down the hull, stained and now has built up 5 coats of varnish. Shane is currently painting the bottom. Jack has drilled the hole for the propshaft & strut into the keel. Meghan has been helping with the varnish building. 58 Continental This continental has its framework and chine pieces reinstalled by Jack. Jack has also installed the keel and started fitting new plywood for the bottom. Carolina Flats Skiff This just in: new to the shop the Carolina Flats Skiff. Jacks already got the deck removed! Follow along to see this boat's restoration. CC Riviera The Riviera is building its varnish up. Shane and Meghan have varnished the deck and it is looking good. 56 Continental The 56 or should we say "Integrity" is on its way to get fitted for a new custom trailer! We will have it back in the shop in about 2 weeks to finish up work & return to its owner. 1934 Electricraft This boat is just about finished! The crew took it out for a sea trial and it just needs a few electrical tweeks and it will be good to go! Check out a clip of our sea trial at the link below: 1934 Electricraft This electric boat has a new drilled hole for its propshaft through the repaired keel pieces thanks to Jack. Carolina Skiff Shane has been fitting and painting the new seat parts for this boat. Meghan did the final coat of paint on these new seat parts and Shane has been wiring the electrical to the main switch board. Whirlwind Meghan has dry fitted and shaped the rub rail & splash rail for the Whirlwind. She is now staining to then build up coats of varnish on the port aft on the new veneers. Ski Boat

Whirlwind Talk about a cool unique restoration! The whirlwind is having its own rebuilding done by 'cold molding'. Each layer is put in individually. The interior of the boat is done and Meghan has done awesome patch work to the side. Do you wanna know what cold molding is? Let us know and Gary will tell us what, how, and why this is so cool! Cruising sailboat This boat has gotten the finishing touches done with paint and varnish. The wiring is about 75% done Next up is wiring the wire panel & remote stern lights. This boat will be saying 'Fair Seas' next week! Riviera The Riviera is looking good - thanks Shane! The stain on the deck is done and now we need 1 to 2 more coats of sealer before we can bleach and stain the blonde area. Lightning Bug This electric boat is almost ready to leave the shop. All the wiring is done, now we detail and hook it up! 56 Continental The 56 is now "Integrity". What would/did you name your boat? This boat is being shipped soon for its custom trailer fitting. Carolina skiff The skiff is getting new seats and a wiring control panel. Next up is upholstery! Ski Boat This ski boat is ready to take on the wind with its newly installed windshield. Shane has been installing the interior and doing a lot of wiring. Once the gauges come in the boat will be in top shape with its engine hooked up and ready for a test run. U18 Repetition is something we at Lowell Boats know much about! The U18 is in its sanding and fairing cycle - 3 down once more to go! Check out Gary posing with the U18 - lookin good ! Grey Electricraft This electric boat is on its way home! Gary and Jack are headed to Roaring Gap to return this newly restored boat to its owner. Fair Seas! 58 Continental Tricky! is the word used by our restorationist to describe what's being done. Our crew found rot in the continental, they removed and replaced the chine planks as well as transom chine. Jack is making custom transom chine pieces and frame replacement parts.
